Software

Our computers come pre-loaded with many popular software titles. There are no restrictions on installing any software that you own on the rentals. To ensure data privacy, all files are securely erased after the rental is returned to us. Trial software is fully functional for 30 days unless otherwise noted. Please note that trial software is provided as a courtesy to our customers, you are not charged for it and it has no value. Trial software cannot be reset, you must buy the software title if you need to use it for more than 30 days.

About the transition to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

Almost all of our computers have been upgraded to OS X 10.5 Leopard. We carry 8-Core Mac Pros with OS X 10.5 Leopard and OS X 10.4 Tiger, please specify an operating system when reserving Mac Pros. PowerPC computers (PowerBook G4 & Power Mac G5) come with OS X 10.4 Tiger only.

All Computers Include:

  • Mac OS X 10.5.2 or Mac OS X 10.4.11: with Safari, Apple Mail, iCal, iChat, Address Book and more.
  • iLife '08: iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, iWeb, GarageBand, plus iMovie HD from iLife '06. (iMovie from iLife '06 is not included on the MacBook Air.)
  • Adobe CS3 Design Premium Suite Trial - Photoshop Extended, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, & Adobe Acrobat Pro. (The MacBook Air only comes with Photoshop Extended, InDesign & Illustrator.)
  • FileMaker Pro 9 Trial (Not included on the MacBook Air.)
  • QuarkXpress 7 Trial (Not included on the MacBook Air.)
  • Extensis Suitecase Fusion Trial (Not included on the MacBook Air.)
  • FireFox & Internet Explorer
  • Microsoft Office 2004 Trial: This version does not allow you to print and will display a trial logo on PowerPoint presentations. We include two different office suites that can create, edit, and print Microsoft Office files (NeoOffice & iWork '08). However, complex formatting, animations, and macros may not work in Microsoft Office alternatives. Alternatively we can install the full version of Microsoft Office 2004 or 2008 for $100.
  • NeoOffice: Open-source version of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. By default our version saves files in Microsoft Office formats (.doc, .xls, .ppt).
  • iWork '08 Trial: Pages, Numbers, & Keynote.
  • Video Players & Codecs: RealPlayer, VLC, Perian, Windows Media Player, & Flash 9.
  • Utilities: Stuff-it Expander, Jiggler, Acrobat Reader

  • OS 9 Classic

    Software Available for an Additional Fee

    You may install any software that you own on the rentals (including Windows.) We offer the following software titles for an additional charge. If you need additional software, we recommend making a reservation in advance because some configurations can take up to one business day. Please note that all software titles are subject to availability.

    Adobe Software
    Most Adobe titles can be used as 30-day free trials from www.adobe.com/downloads. Alternatively we offer the following full versions:

  • Adobe Design Premium CS3 (Photoshop Extended, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash Pro, Dreamweaver & Acrobat Pro) - $200 for the first week and $100 per additional week of rental.
  • Adobe Production Premium CS3 (After Effects, Encore, Flash Pro, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Soundbooth & Photoshop Extended) - $300 for the first week and $150 per additional week of rental.

    Earlier Macintosh Operating Systems (OS X 9 & 10.0-10.3)
    All of our PowerBook G4s and Power Mac G5s come with OS 9 Classic installed. We can install older versions of OS X onto these machines for specific software or testing purposes. Regardless of rental duration, we charge a $130 flat fee to install a different operating system. Please note that older operating systems do not include the standard additional software titles listed above.

    Final Cut Pro
    We stock elite 17" MacBook Pros with Final Cut Studio 2 pre-installed. Final Cut Studio 2 includes Final Cut Pro 6, Soundtrack Pro 2, Motion 3, Compressor 3, DVD Studio Pro 4, and Color. Mac Pro towers are also available with an advance reservation.

    Microsoft Office
    We can install the full version of Microsoft Office 2004 or 2008 for a flat $100 on any rental machine. If you are looking to do basic editing on Microsoft Office documents, our rentals already include the 30-day trial of the Microsoft Office Suite. However, the trial version does not allow you to print and will display a trial logo on PowerPoint presentations. To alleviate this, we include two different office suites that can create, edit, and print Microsoft Office files (NeoOffice & iWork '08). Nevertheless, complex formatting, animations, and macros may not work in Microsoft Office alternatives.

    Windows on a Mac
    You can install other operating systems on our rentals or have us to do it for you. We require one business day to install Windows on the Mac of your choice. Regardless of the rental duration, we charge a $300 flat fee to install Windows XP or Windows Vista through Bootcamp, Parallels, or VMWare. Refer to our Windows on a Mac page for detailed information about all of these options. Please note that Windows technical support is only available for an additional fee.
