Mac Pro vs. Power Mac G5 The Mac Pro is the professional Apple desktop released in August of 2006. They utilize the new Intel Xeon processors (instead of the Power PC G5 chip.) In most cases, a Mac Pro is the best option. Customers who may need a Power Mac G5 are professionals with PCI-X cards to install or users of older software titles.
